BS/MS+1 candidate in Electronics & Photonics
University of California, Santa Barbara

I’m interested in heterogeneous computing for ML and quantum workloads. I build software and study the hardware it runs on.

Independent project

Optical Interconnect Co-Design (OICD)

An open source learning tool for co-packaged optics, built for engineers, researchers, and students. It gathers slides, datasheets, and draft standards into one 3D explorer, from rack to microring, and checks each link against the math with every number traced to its source.

The same worst case rack path is −1.0 dB or +2.0 dB depending on which side of a detachable fiber connector the budget is measured.

3D render of an exploded optical engine package, with photonic and electronic chips lifted above an organic substrate and ball grid array, beside a fiber array unit.
Exploded BiDi optical engine in the OICD explorer. Schematic geometry.

A silent tour with on screen captions. It moves from a reference rack to a switch tray, a BiDi optical engine and its photonic chip, a single microring modulator in cross section, and a photonic tensor core processor.

Quantum Photonics Labs

Studied quantum optics through lab experiments and Python circuit programming. Learned how measurement noise and the order of circuit operations affect the results.

With Nate Barnaby, Gavin Kesler, and Bryan Fernandez (Group 7).

Independent project

ML Systems Lab

Built three prototypes for PyTorch FX graph compilation, kernel fusion, and accelerator simulation.

Beyond the projects

About me

Pranav Reddy

I came to computing through hardware, starting with materials and transistors. I still like tracing a software problem back to the machine running it. That’s what draws me to photonics and accelerators.

Before coding, I sketch the design and work through edge cases. I use AI tools to explore and implement ideas, and check the results against my assumptions and measurements.

Outside of work, I play tennis and read science fiction. Two favorites are The Martian and Ender’s Game.
